John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach
John Barnes Myofascial Release is not massage. It is a stand-alone, manual therapy, practiced by a range of healthcare professionals.
For over 40 years, John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach has helped people live with less pain. This groundbreaking bodywork has gained the respect of medical professionals across the globe, making it the ultimate mind-body treatment for pain and dysfunction. John Barnes’ gentle style of Myofascial Release (MFR) never needs to force the tissues, (as in Rolfing or Structural Integration) yet achieves profound results. To achieve authentic healing, you will be treated as a unique individual, rather than by using rigid protocols. Your awareness and participation will help unravel and treat your specific issues.
What is Fascia? It is a three-dimensional web of connective tissue that surrounds and attaches to all internal structures. Fascia is so pervasive throughout the body that it goes all the way down to the cellular level. Trauma, chronic inflammation, disease processes, or surgery can cause fascia to harden, leading to a “straight-jacket” of pressure on the body’s delicate structures. This pressure causes pain, loss of mobility, and a multitude of symptoms. Emotional holding or bracing patterns can cause fascia to solidify and harden as well.
John Barnes MFR works by using sustained, gentle stretching of the connective tissue to release restrictions (hardness) in the fascial system. When these restrictions release, your body begins to heal itself. You can expect pain levels to decrease, your body to be more aligned, and to experience a sense of well-being and lightness.
Myofascial Release is not a “quick fix” and requires your commitment to self-care and a willingness to go deeper into yourself. Lorrie will guide you through this process of transformation with kindness, compassion, and acceptance.
